More than 51 million tourists in Yichang

Yichang received over 51 million domestic tourists from January to June this year, notching up tourism revenue of US$7.25 billion, a year-on-year increase of around 22 percent, according to data released yesterday by the Yichang Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism.
Yichang’s main tourism product – “Two Dams and One Gorge” – covers tours and cruises to the Three Gorges Dam, Gezhou Dam and Xiling Gorge and also takes in Qu Yuan's hometown.
With the pandemic over, tourist numbers for the Three Gorges Dam, Three Gorges Indigenous Scenic Area, Qu Yuan's hometown, and Xiling Gorge Mouth Scenic Area all rebounded this year.
In addition, the program “Duanyang along the Yangtze River”, organized by China Media Group for the 2023 Dragon Boat Festival, showcased the area, attracting tourists from all over the country and giving the numbers a further boost.
Official data shows that there were 2.38 billion domestic tourist trips in the first half of the year, representing a market worth US$32 billion.
Miao Muyang, director-general of the Department of Industrial Development of the MCT, said that May Day holiday tourism had hit a record high, exceeding the same period in 2019, and that the strong recovery in the tourism market has carried on into the summer.
