Yichang Public Transport is providing nine air-conditioned buses for citizens to shelter from this summer’s heat wave.

From July 18 to August 30, the buses will stay at three locations in the city, one near East station and the other two near major construction sites. Most will run from 12:00 to 15:00 every day.

Daily necessities like water as well as heatstroke prevention medicines are provided for free in these vehicles.

Theses air-conditioned buses are able to maintain internal temperatures below 26 degrees Celsius. In addition, most of these buses are all-electric vehicles meaning they make little noise, offering a quiet rest environment.

This public service began last year. This year improvements were made including new locations, extended service hours and the addition of free heat-prevention supplies.

The service has received widespread support from residents since last year. According to statistics, last year’s air-conditioned buses operated for 45 days and served 6,326 outdoor workers.

Yichang also opened a special bus line this year for citizens to enjoy the cool air. From July 18 to August 30, it will run on Yanjiang Avenue from 19:00 to 22:00 with a departure interval of 15 minutes.
