He Kou Village in Yuan'an County, Yichang, has made it on the Taobao Village list for the fifth consecutive year, according to the recently released 2022 edition by Alibaba Research Institute.
A Taobao Village refers to a village where the number of active online stores exceeds 10% of the local household count, and the annual e-commerce transaction volume surpasses 10 million RMB (approximately 1 million USD).
He Kou Village specializes in dried shiitake mushroom e-commerce, with traditional vendors that have successfully transformed their businesses to online platforms. By focusing on brand building, talent training, and logistics development, the village has become a hub for shiitake mushroom e-commerce.
With over 400 households, He Kou Village has established the He Kou E-commerce Industrial Park, integrating office spaces, warehousing, and processing facilities.
This emerging internet-based business model has facilitated a second wave of entrepreneurship among new farmers, increased farmer income, and become an important way to revitalize the countryside.
Now in the season of peppercorn ripening, villagers are busy picking and sorting peppercorn in He Kou Township Jinzhu Village. They now conduct live streaming sessions from their peppercorn plantations, providing an up-close view of the growing and harvesting process.
"Through the online live sales, I have sold more than 1,000 kilograms of peppercorn!" Said Yang Fengmei, head of the Hekou Township Yulu Pepper Professional Cooperative.
Short videos and live broadcasts showcasing the daily life of villagers have led to substantial boosts in sales, creating a promising opportunity for the township. They plan to replicate this success with the upcoming red plum harvest.
