Growth rate of total retail sales of consumer goods surges in Yichang

From January to May this year, Yichang’s total retail sales of consumer goods reached 70.7 billion yuan (US$9.84 billion), a year-on-year increase of 10.2 percent.
Yichang has arranged a special fund of 110 million yuan to restore and expand consumption in the city for this year. Yichang has already distributed 43.4-million yuan worth of discount coupons across the city this year, driving more than 200 million yuan in consumption. The dividends of discount coupons have benefited 83,000 merchants and more than 650,000 consumers in the city.
Yichang's major commercial complexes along with thousands of merchants jointly organized a series of activities to stimulate consumption. Promotions during the 2023 Chinese New Year holiday stimulated consumption by 125 million yuan, and the 3-day auto consumption carnival achieved sales of 250 million yuan.
Yichang is developing various business models in the art and leisure industries. The top ten commercial complexes achieved sales of 144 million yuan during the "May 1st" period with a year-on-year increase of 8.8 percent, and sales of 61.6 million yuan during the Dragon Boat Festival with a year-on-year increase of 9.2 percent.
In the first half of the year, Yichang City launched a series of e-commerce activities aimed to stimulate consumption. Statistics show that Yichang achieved online retail sales of 658 million yuan during the "6.18" e-commerce festival, a year-on-year increase of 30.8 percent. Online promotions during the Spring Festival contributed to a sale of 110 million yuan; the online promotions for spring tea achieved sales of 150 million yuan; a 2-hour live-stream on the e-commerce platform Oriental Selection delivered 120,000 orders of Zigui navel oranges.
