Upgraded Binjiang Park proves popular with public

Yichang’s Binjiang Park is the longest riverside park in China. After undergoing various upgrades and renovations, it has become one of the most popular attractions in Yichang.

Yichang Binjiang Park was built in the 1970s as a result of the construction of the Gezhouba Dam, which used soil to extend the riverbank. Since then, the park has been upgraded and rebuilt several times. Because standards were not consistent across various renovation projects, different parts of the park resulted in having different styles.

To tackle this issue, Binjiang Park was upgraded again at the end of 2021 with a clear plan in mind.

Now the park has is equipped with a bicycle route, walking path, river-watching path, and walkway along the Yangtze River. A unified color palette, choice of material and appearance across the park give it a uniform look. Additionally, several resting areas and river-watching seats have been set up along the Yangtze River in the park.

The park has also introduced bars and cafes as well as built spaces for roller skating and skateboarding. The children’s zone attracts thousands of people every day. All of the new additions are causing the park to become one of the first choices for leisure and entertainment for the residents of Yichang.









The park's dock has been turned into a Yangtze finless porpoise observation point. In the past years, the Yangtze finless porpoise that came to Yichang would only stay for July, and the number of them was no more than seven. Now, the Yangtze finless porpoise has settled in the Yichang section for extended periods of time, and the number has increased to 21.




The old factory buildings along the river have been transformed into the Lighthouse Square. Last year, the Protection of Yangtze River Exhibition of Sustainable Practices was held here and attracted over 200,000 attendees.
