The Yichang Green and Intelligent Shipbuilding Industry Development Alliance was established on June 30. Bringing together ship design, manufacturing, shipping and port resources, it will give a further boost to the intelligent green shipbuilding industry.
The Alliance will develop a standard ship type that can pass more quickly through the Three Gorges Dam locks. It will also work on power systems adapted for green new energy inland waterway vessels.
Ship repairs are another area of focus. The goal is: "China ships, made in Yichang".
Yichang is rich in green power resources, and industry leaders such as Contemporary Amperex Technology, Shandong Haike Group, and Guangzhou Tinci Materials Technology have facilities in Yichang, making the city a major player in new energy batteries.
Yichang Shipbuilding Industrial Park operates four shipbuilding bases in the Yichang City administrative area, in Zhijiang, Yidu, Zigui and Changyang.
This year, Yichang expects to build close to double the number of new energy ships produced in 2022. Ten of them will be fully electric vessels.
