River-based transportation is looking healthy with an increased flow of people and a consistently high level of goods transport.
The Yangtze River Three Gorges Navigation Authority said that both the Three Gorges Dam Ship Lock and the Gezhouba Dam Ship Lock reached historic highs in shipping volume.
From January to June 2023, the shipping volume at the Three Gorges Project reached 84.15 million tons, representing year-on-year growth of more than 9 percent. The Three Gorges Ship Lock handled almost all the cargo traffic, with 21,132 vessels passing through and a shipping volume of 81.58 million tons, nearly 10 percent up on the same period last year.
The Gezhouba Ship Lock handled 24,255 vessel transits, with a shipping volume of 87.34 million tons, up about 12 percent year-on-year.
