Gezhouba Dam cargo throughput reaches 2.12 billion tons

The Gezhouba Dam locks have reached a total cargo throughput of 2.12 billion tons over their 42 years of operation, the Yangtze River Three Gorges Navigation Management Bureau reported on Tuesday.

As of June 25, 2023, more than 2,652,000 ships and about 78,473,000 passengers have passed through the Gezhouba Dam locks, the first large ship lock on the Yangtze River, since its establishment in 1981.

With new technologies, the average daily operation of the Gezhouba Dam Locks has increased from 8 to 49 times over the past 42 years, with the annual throughput increasing from 5 million tons in 1981 to 163 million tons in 2022.

In recent years, the Yangtze River Three Gorges Navigation Management Bureau has further strengthened the joint scheduling and matching operation of the Three Gorges Locks, Gezhouba Dam Locks, and Three Gorges Ship Lifter.
