World Blood Donor Day is a global event to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood and to raise awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products.

To celebrate the 20th edition of the event on June 14 this year, Yichang City treated its 400 voluntary blood donors to a memorable night cruise on the Yangtze River.

As the cruise ship passed through the urban section of the Yangtze River, the screens of buildings on both banks lit up with words of thanks such as "Heartfelt thanks to the selfless blood donors"

Yichang City has won the title of "Volunteer Blood Donation City" eight years in a row.

Since the "Blood Donation Law of the People's Republic of China" came into effect in 1998, more than 900,000 people in Yichang have made voluntary blood donations. Approximately 50,000 blood donations are made in Yichang City each year.
