A groundbreaking ceremony for Yidu’s first batch of Ecology-Oriented-Development (EOD) projects took place on June 13. These projects represent a total investment of 3.3 billion yuan (US $460 million).

Yidu is a county-level city 46 kilometers to the south of Yichang which falls under Yichang jurisdiction.

The seven projects on which construction began on June 13 include the Honghuatao Logistics Terminal with a total investment of 300 million yuan, the Lucheng Comprehensive Logistics Park project with an investment of 596 million yuan, and the Shoujing Urban Plaza with an investment of approximately 1.13 billion yuan.

The EOD model aims to integrate public welfare and commercially viable initiatives in environmental governance with industries that yield higher returns. Since 2016, China has issued a series of policies to support EOD projects.

In 2021, Yidu’s EOD projects were officially selected for the EOD pilot list by the national Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

The PowerChina RoadBridge Group is responsible for the construction of the projects. The group will invest a total of 10.8 billion yuan in the next five years to support ecological protection and environmental governance.
