Flood season in the Yangtze River Basin typically extends from June to August. According to the research and judgment of the Hydrological Bureau of the Yangtze River Water Resources Commission, the upper reaches of the Yangtze River Basin is likely to have normal levels of precipitation this year while the middle and lower reaches are expected to see a decrease.

On June 1, the Yangtze River Water Resources Commission urged Yunnan, Sichuan, Chongqing, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Guizhou, Shaanxi, and other units to be on high alert for the coming heavy rainfalls, and arranged the Three Gorges Reservoir to decrease its water level in an orderly manner.

At 15:00 on June 10, the water level of the Three Gorges Reservoir was lowered to 150.38 meters.

The Three Gorges Reservoir has a normal water level of 175 meters and a flood control level of 145 meters. The flood control capacity within the range from 145 m to 175 m is 22.15 billion m³, enabling the reservoir to take in a net water increase of 13,300 cubic meters per second, preventing water from rushing into the downstream branches.
