More than 22,000 students in Yichang headed to exam rooms on June 7 to take the national college entrance exam, or "gaokao." This year, Yichang has a total of 22,645 students registered for the exam, which is being held at 20 exam sites and 756 exam rooms across the city.

During the gaokao, various departments in Yichang, including traffic police, urban management, medical workers, and power supply, have taken necessary measures to ensure that exam sites are well-maintained, and services are provided to support the examinees.

To provide medical care during the gaokao, the Yichang Emergency Center has arranged six ambulances with experienced medical staff to be stationed at each exam site. Each ambulance is equipped with the proper medical supplies and emergency personnel and vehicles are on standby to provide assistance if needed.

To ensure safety and a smooth flow of traffic during the gaokao, traffic police in Yichang have implemented traffic control measures at the six exam sites around the downtown area. For example, the Yichang Gezhouba Senior Middle School exam site, located on Chengdong Avenue, is one of the busiest exam sites this year, and over 40 traffic police were on duty starting at 6:30 a.m. to direct traffic around the exam site.

At the entrance of each exam site, a temporary identification card processing point has been set up by the police station to assist candidates who may have left their ID cards elsewhere. For example, one student left their ID card on the bus, and police verified and registered their identity quickly, issuing a temporary ID certificate in just three minutes.

To ensure that candidates arrive at their exam sites on time, Yichang has increased the frequency of buses around the city and is providing free rides to gaokao candidates. Chartered passenger vehicles, taxis, and online car-hailing services are available for students, and four parking lots with 167 spaces have been opened near the exam sites for parents who need to drive their children to the exam.

In addition to providing medical care, traffic control, and transportation services, the city management committee has launched an "assistance for gaokao" campaign to provide free parking spaces near the exam sites.

To ensure that students have a quiet and comfortable environment for their exam preparation and rest, Yichang has initiated a "no-noise" campaign from June 1 to June 22, prohibiting construction work that generates noise pollution from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., except for emergency repairs. The city's management committee, housing development bureau, public security bureau, and ecological environment bureau will conduct joint enforcement actions every night to ensure that the campaign is implemented effectively.
