Recently, a 50-member delegation from several European, Asian and African countries visited Yichang, and many commented on the innovative, green and modern qualities of the city.

From May 31 to June 2, the group of political party officials, members of media and think tank researchers visited the Three Gorges Dam, relocated people’s villages and local companies. The purpose of the visit was to display the various industrial transformations and technological innovations in these areas, as well as the progress made in the ecological protection of the Yangtze River.

On June 1, the delegation visited Xingfa Group, which is the world’s largest producer of sodium hexametaphosphate and China's largest producer of sodium tripolyphosphate. Several years ago, in order to protect the ecosystem of the Yangtze River, it moved its factories further from the water and invested millions of RMB in building environmental protection systems.

President of Romanian Socialist Party Constantin Rotaru said: “In Yichang, we see that the way forward for China is to achieve a better balance between ecological protection and economic development.”

Walking along the Yangtze River, the water is clear and the grass is lush. After the demolition of the former wharf and factory, the area has become a good place for the public to enjoy. The population of finless porpoise in the Yichang section has increased from two or three to 17.

Moldova politician Olga Cebotari said: "What we have to learn from China is not just to make a region develop, but to develop it in a comprehensive way."

On June 2, at the Sinochem Modern Agriculture Service Center in Zhijiang, which specializes in modernizing agriculture, the delegation learned about several local practices such as seed selection, sowing, fertilization and dosing.

During the visit, Elliot Ziwira, a senior journalist from Zimbabwe, listened carefully and took many notes with his mobile phone and pen. A key phrase made among his notes was “wiping out extreme poverty.”

He said that Zimbabwe is mostly comprised of saline land. The sea rice developed by China has helped his country to solve hunger. The eradication of hunger and poverty is a global issue and China is taking a lead in wiping out extreme poverty.
