Zigui: Xiacheng sales exceed 4,000 tonnes on first day

Guests were welcomed this Thursday with freshly picked Xiacheng in Xietan Town. Sinochem Modern Agriculture (Hunan) Co., Ltd purchased 4,000 tonnes of Xiacheng from Xiajiang Xiacheng Professional Cooperative in the town of Zigui County, Yichang.
Xiacheng, one of the varieties of Zigui navel oranges, matures in summer and is one of the representatives of Zigui's "four season fresh oranges.”
Since 1974, after several generations of exploration and efforts, the township has cultivated six high-quality summer orange varieties including Minai and Carter.
Eleven out of 13 villages in the township have planted Xiacheng, covering an area of over 1,333 hectares, with a yield exceeding 40,000 tonnes and a sales output value exceeding 200 million yuan (US$28.3 million).
Zigui is located on the banks of the Xiling Gorge on the Yangtze River. It is the "hometown of navel oranges” in China. The navel orange has always served as a local characteristic and a pillar of the agriculture industry.
In May 2022, Xietan Xiacheng was approved for the Wuhan Customs Export Xiacheng Fruit Base Certification, and has since been exported to many countries, the largest market being Vietnam.
Chenjiawan Village established the first generation of Zigui Xiacheng orchard in Yaogutuo. Currently, there are 497.2 hectares of Xiacheng planted at the village. This past year, Chenjiawan had an output of more than 22.5 million kilograms of oranges, equaling a value over 100 million yuan, boosting the average household income to more than 150,000 yuan.
