Yichang kicks off Science and Technology Activities Week

Yichang kicked off the 2023 Science and Technology Activities Week this morning.
At the opening ceremony, the Yichang government awarded the "Three Gorges Talent Card" to the representatives of foreign experts belonging to the A category of talents, and also awarded the corresponding prizes to the representatives of the winners of the 19th "Youth Science and Technology Festival.” Angel Yeast Co., Ltd was awarded the title of "National Science Education Base.” Twelve units were awarded the title of "Yichang Science Popularization Base.”
In recent years, Yichang has accelerated the construction of a regional science and technology innovation center in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River. The added value of the city's high-tech industry has exceeded 100 billion yuan (US$14.24 billion), and the number of high-tech enterprises has grown to 1,141 and science and technology-based SMEs to 1,715.
In 2023, Yichang issued "Several Measures to Support the Innovation and Entrepreneurship of Top Innovative Talents.” Currently, 17 foreign experts have applied for working visas, of which four are Category A talents and 13 are Category B talents.
Category A talents mainly include: academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, members of the corresponding highest academic authorities abroad (academicians), winners of internationally renowned awards such as the Nobel Prize and athletes who have won the first three places in Olympic competition events, etc.
The Yichang Science and Technology Bureau, together with China Merchants Bank, has customized the "Three Gorges Talent Card" with exclusive rights and benefits for scientific and technological talents to enjoy one-to-one talent services from airport VIP service, house purchase, birthday and financial management.
The theme of this Science and Technology Activities Week is "Love Science, Respect Science.” There are 27 main activities, including the 4th Medical Science Popularization Contest, "Golden Ideas" Speech Contest, "Mobile Science Popularization Caravan" series of activities, among others.
Yichang will hold exhibitions of scientific and technological achievements, science popularization lectures, entrepreneurship camps for college students and several additional activities. A total of 42 scientific venues, such as the Hubei Three Gorges Laboratory, will be open to the community for free or at a discounted rate.
