Two Yichang cruises, the "2 Dams and 1 Gorge" cruise and the "Yangtze River Night Cruise", proved a hit with visitors during the five-day May Day holiday.
With numbers up nearly 15 percent on pre-pandemic 2019, the "2 Dams and 1 Gorge" cruise – which takes in the Gezhouba Dam, the Three Gorges Dam and the Xiling Gorge – is now the top choice for visitors to Yichang.
More than that, it is one of the province’s top ten tourist attractions, according to the Hubei Three Gorges Tourism Group.
Almost three quarters of those taking the “2 Dams and 1 Gorge” cruise were from outside Hubei province, with the other 27.5 percent locals. For the "Yangtze River Night Cruise", numbers are split evenly between those from inside and outside the province.
The statistics also show that 2023 visitors are younger than they were four years ago. The average age of visitors was 46.8 years old, 5.2 years less than the figure recorded in 2019.
The other big visitor attraction, the “Yangtze River Night Cruise” cruise along the Yangtze River, has been operating since 2016.
Visitor statistics show a predilection for tour groups with more than 6,000 tour group visitors through the turnstiles in a single day at the Gezhouba Dam, Three Gorges Dam and Xiling Gorge.
Self-driving travel is also popular. Half of the visitors to the top two attractions were self-driving tourists.
